Printmakers

Leah Mackin: To create her meditative prints Mackin first runs her original drawings and folded paper sketches through a photocopier several times making subtle changes to the image as it passes through. The final geometric patterns are created from monoprinting.

These are woodcuts...woodcuts! Taking from video stills Baumgartner has shot herself of everyday life. Her prints, often several metres long (makes them even more amasing) are concerned with the modern world and  technology, planes, trains, motorway and traffic and it ties in well with my print brief Urban (us)

Green etchings

Woodcuts

 Took the people from my layered sketch decided to use it for my woodcut took ages! Combined it with the warning no trespassing sign from the building site but I prefer it on its own.

First etchings

Took these to photos got rid of the building and just used the bars and poles for my first two mini etchings

First Monoprint

Decided to run with the image of the concrete building on the abandoned site.

This is my first monoprint with cry colours. I think I'll use my sketch of the layered people and etch it over these prints to fill an isolated space.

When I was printing out grey squares to do more monoprints and Des suggested I make a big building from those squares I loved that idea so here's the start..

People occupy space in the city, I sat upstairs in Macdonalds drawing people as they went by layering them over each other to create a overcrowded urban space.

Artists Statement

My project really started off as the difference between countryside and City, I also looked at how we're interect with our own body (contagion), how people interact in crowds and journeys which became a big part of my project. Through the last few months I've just experiment with the idea of mapping a space paying particular emphasis to people and crowds how when were are in a space we are connected to the other people in that space even if its only for a little while we share that space. I've mapped my own movements through space with quick sketchings of my journey from home to limerick and that of the people in my studio with the lifesize silhouettes. I've looked at limerick as a space through maps and I even made maps of my own with photograms, thread and shadows.
I'm glad that I focused on maps in the end as being central to my project, I really enjoyed working with them and I've learned a lot from doing this project the last few months..not just  exactly where foxes bow is.
