This is a piece of bark I found at home that I painted a map of limerick onto mixing that idea of my home in the country and the city. In theory I thought this was a lovely idea but visually its very messy not too happy with this one!

Country meets city
This is a piece of bark I found at home that I painted a map of limerick onto mixing that idea of my home in the country and the city. In theory I thought this was a lovely idea but visually its very messy not too happy with this one!

I realise trying to make a sculpture of all of limerick city to put in the back fields of Ballycleary will be nigh on impossible so I'm thinking of taking pictures of the places in the city I most interact with like grove island, the art college, the canal walk to the college, clare street, the various pubs and try recreate them, as well as using the oh so handy Google maps. On our PLC last year we had a talk from a guy who made minitures for films and he said they work a lot with styrofoam even when they make the larger set design versions so I was thinking of playing around with that then leaving it there for it to be made bits of, blown away, etc record how its space has an effect on it.

Pink Street made of cardboard in my back field.
I live in the middle of nowhere it's lovely but it's very different to where I'm living now - the middle of the city. I want to try put a bit of the city in the countryside combining the two spaces I occupy and this was a little test piece I did at the weekend of a made up street. I painted it bright pink so it would really seem "other" to it's surroundings.

contagion
When I saw the brief first I thought senses touch space personal space . This is the first idea I've decided to try out supposedly you touch your face over four thousand times a day so I put paint on my fingers and decided to record over the space of an hour where I touched my face. It wasnt a very accurate test because using acrylic paint it dried very quick and got uncomfortable so naturally I touched my face more often however I like the look of the cakey effect of the layers of acrylic.
